Of course, we loved the Indie Soap Awards BEFORE Renée won - we felt that the organizers really went out of their way to showcase a cool, diverse group of nominees.

We discovered a few great shows we'd never heard of and just a huge variety of stories and experience and perspectives. And we're truly honoured to have been included in that. Thanks, Indie Soap Awards!

Well, NOW WE ARE. The magazine arrived this afternoon and it was quite a thrill to flip past the pages of sexy lesbian graphic artists and an interview with Leisha Hailey to find...US! Mere pages away from Leisha Hailey and cartoon boobs! Jealous??

I wish I could tell you that we answered these questions in French (because Renée and I do speak a little French) but the reality is that Cécile translated our answers into French for us so that we didn't sound like five year olds talking about our web series. Merci, Cécile!!

Zoe has a lot of great things to say about lesbian representation in the media which we really identified with - particularly in the intro of her piece, when she's talking about Law & Order: SVU's delicate whiff of lesbonic action:

SVU is a good example of mainstream media recognising their gay audience without placing any real effort into maintaining or progressing it: They tease with possibility because they know our expectations are low but our hopes are high. We will tune in religiously for the merest proximity between female characters, and write them into a Shakespearian romance in our heads, without the producers of a show ever having to “compromise” their mainstream audience.

This really rang true for us - we're always a little desperate to see ourselves represented and always a little too excited when something *might* be about us. Which is one of the reasons we wanted to create Seeking Simone -so that it could for SURE be about us. Yay homos!
